We will work together to identify what kind of training will best meet your needs. We tailor the service to the needs of the group – and every group is different!  Scroll down the page for descriptions of frequently arranged workshops.Costs vary depending on the service, the number of students, the location and any special needs or requirements.  We can explore options and help you identify the most cost-effective approaches to providing the training you want. Because we are a nonprofit organization, grants and donations can often be obtained to help cover the costs of our programs.

KIDPOWER Privately Organized Workshop Descriptions

Note: The organizer is responsible for space, parking, photocopying, refreshments, registration, sound systems for larger groups and other logistics. When instructors travel a long distance for a workshop, a minimum of 6 workshop hours per day is required and additional costs for travel will need to be added.

EVERYDAY SAFETY WORKSHOPS

These workshops focus on the “everyday safety” skills of boundary setting, awareness, personal safety, bullying, peer pressure, harassment, advocacy, etc.

KIDPOWER 2-Hour Parent-Child Workshops

These entertaining workshops give parents and caregivers the opportunity to learn along with their children. Trained presenters introduce the Everyday Safety skills of being and acting aware, taking charge, and getting help. Each step of the way, the adults are coached in how to practice these skills with their children.
The workshop can accommodate up to 20 children with their parents or other adults.

KIDPOWER Trainings for Adults on How to Teach Self Protection Skills to Young People

Through parent/caregiver education programs, presentations to community groups, and Introductory Presenter Training, adults are introduced to the KIDPOWER approach on how to discuss and practice safety skills with young people. Topics include awareness and boundary setting with strangers, people we know and trust, bullies, and peers. Programs range from one-hour talks to full-day workshops.
These presentations can have as many participants as can fit comfortably in the space.

KIDPOWER and TEENPOWER School Programs

School assemblies, classroom workshops, and trainings for adults can be organized. Programs help to prevent violence, harassment, and bullying. Resources are available to enable schools to incorporate the teaching of these skills into their ongoing health and safety curriculum. Schools provide volunteers and interpreters.

FULL FORCE WORKSHOPS

This training allows students to practice full force self defense techniques on an instructor who is fully padded from head to toe, as well as to practice Everyday Safety Skills through individually tailored role plays and exercises.

KIDPOWER Parent-Child Full Force Workshops

In this workshop students learn all of the Everyday Safety Skills (awareness, calm and confidence, moving out of reach, checking first, using your voice to help you stay safe, getting help effectively, dealing with hurtful words, setting boundaries, dealing with bullying, etc) with their parents (like in a Parent Child Workshop).  For the second half of the class, students learn physical self-defense skills to use as a last resort and the adults support them.  Adults can learn some skills in the air, but the focus will be on the children learning physical skills.  Adults will watch and support their children when they are practicing the skills on a padded instructor.

KIDPOWER Weekend Family Workshops

This unique comprehensive learning experience includes an evening session for parents and other support adults in a child’s life and two four-hour weekend sessions for children from 6 to 14 years old. Trained staff create personalized role plays in which children use their awareness and boundary-setting skills in situations which are appropriate for them. The Full Force self defense practice builds children’s belief in their ability to be powerful while increasing their understanding that fighting is always the last resort.
This workshop can accommodate up to 15 children.

TEENPOWER Full Force Workshops

Because of their increasing independence, teens often face a higher risk of violence. In this upbeat five-hour program, students learn and practice skills for dealing with verbal attack, peer pressure, and harassment as well as assaults from strangers and acquaintances. In standing and ground scenarios, students practice Full Force self defense on the head-to-toe padded instructor. For students under 18, parental permission is required.
This workshop can accommodate up to 15 teens ages 13 to 18.

FULLPOWER Full Force Workshops

In our lifetimes, we face a greater risk of dealing with a violent assault than of being in a serious car accident. Our introductory three-to-four hour program gives students the opportunity to practice taking powerful and effective action in the face of danger. Students learn and practice how to de-escalate a threatening verbal assault as well as how to use Full Force self defense skills to fight off a potential attacker.  We also offer advanced workshops to practice self defense on the ground, against weapons, and against multiple attackers.
This workshop can accommodate up to 15 adult students.

By organizing the TEENPOWER class, we were able to make this experience happen not only for our daughter but also for so many of her friends.  In addition to getting individual skills, they learned skills and language for setting up safety plans with each other when they go out together.”

When bullying was getting to be more of a problem as the year went on, we arranged a KIDPOWER class that put extra emphasis on peer skills.  We were amazed to see how quickly the students started using the skills!”

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace, but our employees sometimes worry about their safety arriving early or staying late.  By organizing a FULLPOWER class for our employees, we were able to take positive action to address their concerns.”

"We first worked with KIDPOWER after a couple of concerning incidents that left our teachers, aides, and family service workers concerned for their own safety.  The FULLPOWER adult program helped our staff learn how to protect themselves from possible danger and how to de-escalate confrontations."
