"Your training allowed me to become more confident in boundary-setting, even with work colleagues who can sometimes be macho and intrusive. Thanks to what I learned, I felt prepared to assert myself and able to manage their possible reactions. Now, rather than cringing before going to work, I look forward to my day.."

WE LOVE SUCCESS STORIES!!!

If you or your loved ones have used ANY KTF skill in daily life and would like to share the story with us, we'd love to hear it! Stories are a wonderful teaching tool, and we always change names, locations, and other identifying information so that the people involved can share their stories of taking charge while still maintaining their privacy.

Please email to montreal@kidpower.org. Thank you!

A SUCCESS STORY: A sensitive heart

My 6 year old son is very sensitive, to the point that slightest word hurtful can leave him feeling wounded for days. The situation became very problematic when he was singled out as the classroom scapegoat. And nobody wanted to be his friend because of the role he played.

The KidPower garbage can changed all of that. He learned to protect himself better and better. And, only a few weeks later, even if he's still sensitive, he knows how to protect himself and set his boundaries with the other children. Your training allowed my son to gain enough self-confidence to act and protect himself. What a turnaround!. Now, his old bullies have actually become real friends who respect and appreciate him.

BRIEF NEWS

Bullying Prevention Project in Villeray/ Petite Patrie

For the 2nd year in a row, the Table de concertation jeunesse de Villeray/Petite Patrie has received funding for it’s multi-pronged bullying and taxing prevention project. It has mandated us again to offer 6 KidPower and TeenPower workshops in 6 elementary and high schools in Villeray and Petite Patrie Our training is part of a trilogy of activities in those schools. The two others are a play for parents, and awareness presentations in classrooms surrounding anti-bullying laws.
In addition, we are offering a pilot TeacherPower training to help teachers and professionals acquire more skills to help keep themselves safe as well as their students.

Toddler Power in Progress

With the financial collaboration of the 123 Go! Longueuil Ouest Initiative, we are currently working at adapting our KidPower programs to better suit the needs of 4 and 5 year olds. We wish to be able to eventually serve children as young as 3. Thus, our pilot project will be held in the CPE Pierrot la lune of Longueuil where we will be doing 1 parent education evening, 2 parent-child workshops and 1 child-care worker training.

Free KidPower Public Workshops in Mile-End

Thanks to the financial support of the Fondation des victimes du 6 décembre, we have the unique opportunity to offer 2 free KidPower public workshops. These are organized jointly with the Neighborhood Police Department (PDQ 37) and are offered to the residents of this sector only.

More Workshops in More Locations

Thanks to all those of you who have helped us in this project, we are now able to offer more public workshops in the following sectors: Villeray/ Petite Patrie, Plateau/ Mile-End, Verdun/ Pointe St Charles. If you would like us to hold public workshops in an area near you, you can help us do this by finding names of schools, sports clubs or groups that are willing to donate space – or rent very cheaply – a few week-end mornings or afternoons or week nights a year.

Results of the Fondation des victimes du 6 décembre Donation

Last year, we received a major donation from the Fondation des victimes du 6 décembre contre la violence. Our plan was to serve over 380 at risk youths and their parents and caregivers. The project is now almost complete and we have already exceeded the expected number of people served. Over 445 people have been trained, 377 youths and 68 adults. And we expect to train over 200 other people with the remaining workshops. We have also built sustainable relationships with over 10 schools and groups with the help of this donation. this level of support makes all the difference in our ability to reach out to people in need. Many thanks!

Creating a Safe School Culture

For the 2nd consecutive year, the Ste Thérèse Academy has chosen us to teach their students from kindergarten to 5th grade. Moreover, this year all 1st graders had the opportunity to receive a 4h classroom program. It’s inspiring to see how a safe and durable culture can be set-up when we are able to work together with students, parents, teachers and school management.

Furthermore, for the 5th consecutive year, and in collaboration with IQDI, the special class of Mr. Julien Grenon from Armand Corbeil High School received an 11h TeenPower training once again for his developmentally delayed students along with their parents, teachers and workers. This level of continuity would not have been possible without the very precious ongoing financial support of Jocelyne Caron, Terrebonne delegate.

YOUR DONATIONS LARGE AND SMALL HELP US HELP OTHERS

Last year, we received over 12,000$ in donations on our 10,000$ annual goal!!! Thank you so much! And this was made possible thanks to the generosity of many individuals, corporations and foundations.

Start 2004 by doing a good deed and help us reach our 10,000$ annual goal for this year. Your short letter of endorsement can make a huge difference in our ability to receive funding from any businesses or service clubs with which you are affiliated. You can also write KidPower in as a pledge choice in your Employee workplace giving campaign. Also, your tax-deductible donation in any amount would be greatly appreciated. Your support is helping us maintain our commitment to never turning anyone away for lack of money. Thank you again!
