Every young person deserves to know how to stay safe and get help if they face abuse, bullying, or harassment – in-person or online. In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month this April, please read, discuss, and share the two posters and additional resources below.
Because most abuse happens from adults kids know, it is important to acknowledge this reality in ways that are emotionally safe and clear. We also need to make SURE that young people – and important adults in our lives, KNOW that we CARE about their safety, no matter what.
Please take a few moments to discuss the messages on these two posters with all the young people in your own life – and please share these with caregivers, teachers, heads of school, counselors and other caring adults – and ask them to also discuss these messages with the children and teens in their care.
When talking with young people, it works best to be upbeat rather than upset – and calm rather than anxious. This article has links to the posters, more explanation, and simple practices to help kids remember: When Adults in Kid’s Lives Have Problems – What Kids Need to Know and What Their Adults Need to Do.
