Program Description
To be safe online, young people need strong social-emotional safety skills. Social-emotional development extends through the teen years, so, even teens with strong tech skills are safer with caring adults involved in their online lives. You’ll leave this program with more strategies to:
- Strengthen communication to keep conversations with your kids about their online lives open, respectful, and supportive
- Apply boundary setting principles to set clear rules about where, how, and when youth can use online tools
- Make a ‘Long-Term Shared Goal’ about your kids’ online lives that you all agree on – and can work toward as a team
- Build an age-appropriate understanding of issues, including online privacy, cyberbullying, and digital citizenship
- Coach young people in making online adaptations for all of their in-person social-emotional safety skills
- Develop safety plans for trying new things online – and for getting help when things go wrong
This US$60 program includes one-on-one email support with questions before & after the workshop and links to resources to help you & your family apply, adapt, and practice the skills.
Workshop Fee: $60/screen
Pre-registration is required as there is limited space.
Donations over the amount of workshop fees are tax-deductible. We do not turn anyone away from our workshops for lack of money. Scholarship assistance is available.
Because practicing together greatly increases the ability to use the skills taught in real life, we strongly recommend that you keep your video and microphone on and practice along with the instructor.
Upon registering, participants will receive a confirmation email with the meeting link.
The instructor’s presentation may be recorded for Kidpower use. Participants will not be recorded.
Instructor will stay up to 30 minutes after the end of the workshop to answer questions and practice skills.
