Skills to prevent and stop an attack

One strong move prevents and stops most attacks. Learning self-defense skills will help prepare you to take quick forceful action to get away from someone who is trying to harm you.

Use these self-defense resources – videos, lessons, practice guides, and more – to learn and teach skills now. Our techniques can be learned quickly, practiced safely, and used even if someone does not have much physical strength, coordination, or time to train.

Self-Defense Success Story

One of our students showed her friend how to yell and set a strong boundary instead of staying silent and wishing a problem would go away. One afternoon, when a man started following her friend in an isolated neighborhood, she crossed the street. He crossed too and started coming closer and closer.

She turned around, got into the Ready Position that her friend had taught her, and shouted, “STOP FOLLOWING ME!”

The man looked startled and took off running.
